About Sue Gamble January 2024
Sue Gamble is a unique artist whose creative journey began long before her art studies at the University of Toronto and the University of Ottawa. Sue’s childhood artistic endeavors encompassed horses, ravens and foxes and not surprisingly these animals show up as themes in her art today. Sue’s artistic life is enhanced by a passion for horses and animals, the environment, geology as well as for the people she has met along life’s path. Sue’s distinctive artistic voice celebrates animals, the natural world, and the Canadian Boreal forest. Strongly influenced by painters in the tradition of the Mystic North, Sue’s work is an invitation to explore the mystery of that world.
“I paint to connect with a world I feel deeply.”
Sue Gamble’s artistic expression is a testament to her technical prowess and profound connection to nature. Sue begins with a visual image resulting from the magic of life’s experience. The concept is developed digitally then transferred to the chosen substrate. She paints intensely with acrylics using many layers and glazes. Colour palettes are well understood and carefully curated adding depth and subtlety to her artwork. As a true creative Sue is open to variety, experimentation, and innovation. Recent paintings exhibit a subtle underlying geometry which can be fluid and linear while beautifully echoing her geological background creating mesmerizing visual narratives.
Sue Gamble’s heritage descends from Finnish and French Canadian ancestry which influences her work on a deeper level. Today Sue resides with her husband and animals on a lake in Northern Ontario surrounded by the Boreal forest. Sue’s artworks have graced prestigious exhibitions and earned accolades in juried shows. Her paintings have touched the hearts of those who appreciate the remarkable interplay between art, nature and mystery that define Sue Gamble’s captivating images.
Sue Gamble is an elected member of the Ontario Society of Artists, the Colour and Form Society, and the Northern Ontario Art Association.
Sue Gamble is listed in Gary Sim's British Columbia Artists (BC Artists).
