Fire and Ice - North Forte Gallery Show
Artist Statement on "Fire and Ice"
Sue’s distinctive artistic voice celebrates animals, the natural world, and the Canadian Boreal forest. Strongly influenced by painters in the tradition of the Mystic North, Sue’s work is an invitation to explore the mystery of that world. As a true creative Sue is open to variety, experimentation, and innovation. Paintings currently exhibit a subtle underlying geometry which can be simultaneously fluid and linear while most recently echoing a subtle fascination with the Fibonacci sequence. Sue’s paintings exhibit a communion with nature and invite a connection on a spiritual level.
The fascination with fireweed comes not only from fireweed’s changing form and brilliant colour throughout the seasons but also because fireweed shows remarkable resilience. Fireweed is the first plant to reclaim the ashes after a wildfire. These paintings celebrate the spirit of fireweed in the face of wildfire due to a changing climate.
