"The Fire in Marquis" is the second of two paintings the artist did on this theme so far. This image derived directly from a real event. In the artist's words: "One winter, we had decided to burn a beautiful but now dangerous old Finn hand hewn log cabin on our family farm/homestead in Marquis Township. The house had sadly fallen into disrepair. Part of the original small two room structure would have passed its 100th birthday in 2012. The log house was now dangerous. True story, the morning after the burning, a wolf appeared standing by the remains of the fire. Was it a wolf or was it the spirit of the much loved original occupants come to bid good bye to the building that had sheltered them through the Depression and World War II and then on to provide them with shelter into the 1970’s? What is with the wolf appearing the following day? Who knew that wolves liked a little heat too? So very mysterious. It had to be a painting."

(This work was derived from the artist's experience and imagination.)
